Ahl u Sunnah have been extreme in the case of Muhajireen and Ansar and they label every person as Mujahir who travelled from Mecca to Medina. When we look at the time of Companions there you can see a contrast with what they are propagating today !
Narrated by Imam Abu Abdullah Shahabudeen Qadhai’e vis his own chain from Anas bin Malik who said :Surely Prophet (pbuh) said :
المؤمنُ من أمنَهُ النَّاسُ علَى دمائِهِم وأموالِهِم ، والمسلِمُ من سلمَ المسلمونَ من لسانِهِ ويدِهِ، والمُهاجِرُ مَن هجَر الخطايا والذُّنوبَ
Believer is one by whom people are at Peace. A Muslim is one from whose tongue and hands fellow Muslims are safe, Muhajir is one who has left Sins,……..
Investigator of this book Muhammad Irshaad Kamal ( Student of Shaykh Zubair Ali Za’i) says :
” The Narration is Authentic. Also narrates by Imam Ahamad in Musnad, Abu Yala in Musnad and Ibn Hibban in Sahih.

Imam Ahamd bin Hanbal in his Book narrates a Hadith which is as follows :
قثنا قثنا وَكِيعٌ ، قَالَ : قَالَ سُفْيَانَ ، وَقَالَ الأَعْمَشُ : عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مُرَّةَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَ : جَاءَ رَجُلانِ قَدْ خَرَجَا مِنَ الْحَمَّامِ مُتَزَلِّقِينَ ، مُتَدَهِّنِينَ إِلَى عَلِيٍّ ، فَقَالَ : ” مَنْ أَنْتُمَا ؟ ” ، قَالا : نَحْنُ مِنَ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ ، فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ : ” الْمُهَاجِرُ عَمَّارُ بْنُ يَاسِرٍ
Abdullah bin Salm’ah narrates that two men who were oiling their heads and leaving Haman [Bathing Area] came to Ali and He asked them : ” Who are you?” They replied : We are Muhajireen. Ali said to them :
“Real Muhajir is Ammar bin Yasir”
The Investigator of this Book Shaykh Wasiullah Abbas has following to say about this Narration :
Its chain of Narration is SAHIH. It has been also narrated in Muj’am AlZawahid 9//292 and Imam Haythami has said : its has been narrated by Tabarani and its all narrators are Thiqah and Sahih.
