Saad-uddin-taftazani

Allamah Ismaeel Basha Baghdadi (d. 1339) records:

Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani records:

Masood bin Umar al-Taftazani, the great scholar, the author of Sharh al-Talkhis, Sharh al-Aqed fi Usool al-Deen, Sharh al-Shamsya fi al-Manteq and Sharh al-Tasreef al-Ezi which some say as his first book, al-Irshad fi al-Nahoo; he summarized it, al-Hajebya wa al-Maqasid fi Usool al-Deen; he wrote commentary for it, al-Talweeh fi Usool Fiqh al-Hanafia; it is a margin commentary for Tawdeeh Sadr al-Sharia, margin commentary for Sharh al-Mukhrasar of al-Qadhi `Adududdin, margin commentary of al-Kashaf… he also wrote other books in various fields of knowledge which have been commented, obtained and preserved by the scholars. He was the extremely knowledgeable in the field of eloquence and logic, more in East rather in the all countries; there wasn’t anyone in comparison to his knowledge. He died in the month of Safar in year 792 and no one was there who would be able to take his place, he was born in 712 as its written by Ibn al-Jazri, Shehab al-Deen ibn Arabshah al-Hanafi said to me that Sheikh Alaa al-Deen mentioned that Sheikh Saad al-Deen died in year 791 at the age of 80.

“Masood al-Taftazani (712 – 791 H) (1312 – 1389) Masood bin Umar bin Abdullah al-Taftazani (Saad al-deen) a scholar in Arabic grammar, language, eloquence, Jurisprudence, Usool, logic and other. He was born in Taftazan, a village near to Nisa, he obtained knowledge from al-Qutub and al-adhad, the people get benefited from his books, he died in Samarqand”
