Qadhi-adad-al-shafi

Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani records:

Abdul Rahman bin Ahmad bin Abdul Ghafar al-Qadhi Adad al-Deen al-Eji, was born in ‘Ej’ near to Shiraz after the year 700, he obtained knowledge from the Sheikhs of his century and companied Sheikh Zain al-Deen al-Henki, the student of al-Baydawi and others.

Mostly he resided in Sultanya, then during Abi Saeed’s reign he became a judge of al-Mamalik, he was an Imam in logic, maintaining Usool, meanings and language, participating in authoring and he has “Sharh al-Mukhtasar wa al-Mawaqif fi ealm al-Kalam” and others, he created great students who became renowned across the horizon as Shams al-Deen al-Kirmani, Dhia al-Deen al-Afifi, Saad al-Deen al-Taftazani and others.

There was an argument between him and al-Abhary, he was rich and generous, paying a lot to his students. He had an ordeal with kirman’s ruler and he (the ruler) throw him in the fort jail, till he died there in the year 756. al-Subki mentioned this date amd al-Asooni mentioned a date before that.

Umar Raza Kahala records about him:

Abdul Rahman al-Eji (708 – 756) (1308 – 1355) Abdul Rahman bin Ahmad bin Abdul Ghafar bin Ahmad al-Eji, al-Sherazi Al-Shaf’ii, (Adhad al-deen) a scholar authored in logic, Usool, meanings, grammar and philosophy. He was born in ‘Ej’ near to Shiraz, he died in a jail in Daryaman fort, from his book: Al-Risala al-adhadya fi al-w’adh, Al-Fawaed al-Ghyathia fi al-Ma’ani, Sharh muntaha al-so’al wa al-amal fi Ilmay al-Usool wa al-Jadal, Al-Mawaqif fi Ilm al-Kalam, Tahqiq al-Tafsir fi Takthir al-al-Tanweir.

Al-Mutrezi
The suprem judge Adhad al-deen al-Sherazi.
It is mentioned that he is from Abu Bakr’s descendant.
He was an Imam in logic, learned man in the two usool, in the meanings, eloquence, grammar and jurisprudence.
He had an authorship in philosophy “al-muwakif” and other, in Usool al-Fiqh (he had) “Sharh mukhtasar ibn al-Hajeb”, in meanings and eloquence (he had) “al-Qawaed al-Ghyathia”.
He had extremely happiness and a lot of money, he spent money on the students and his words were executed…

Allamah Ibn Imaad Hanbali records:

“Adad al-deen Abdul Rahnam bin Ahmad bin Abdul Ghafar, the supreme judge in the east and the Sheikh of the scholars and the Shafiittes….He was an Imam in different fields of knowledge, he was a corrector (muhaqiq) and an auditor (mudaqiq) and had various books…Al-Subki said: ‘He was an Imam in logic, learned man in the two Usools, meanings, eloquence, grammar and jurisprudence’ …he made students who became renowned far across the globe, such as al-Shams al-Kirmani, al-Dhia al-Afifi, Saad al-Taftazani and others. Al-Taftazani said in his praise: ‘Nothing left for us except to follow his footsteps and discover his hidden secrets, obtaining outgrowth (knowledge) from his ocean and get enlightened from his light.”

Allamah Ismaeel Bagha Baghdadi (d. 1339) counts him among the Hanafies, he records about him as follows:

Adad al-Deen al-Eji (Ej is a land near Shiraz) al-Hanafi, he was a judge at “Memalik al-Eitkan”, he was born in year 700 and died in 756.
