37. Al-Tabarani and Abu Nu'aim Asfahani distorted a narration to hide the name of Mu'awiyah about who Prophet (ﷺ) had predicted that he will die outside Islam.

Al-Baladhuri (Died 279 AH) narrated via two chains like this :

Abdullah Ibn 'Amr ibn Al-‘as who stated: ‘I was sitting with the Prophet of Allah (ﷺ) when He (ﷺ) said: ‘A man will come out of this mountain pass, who will die and he will be outside my nation (Islam)’. I had left behind my father there for abulution, and I feared, as if holding back my urine, that he would be the one to come, but Mu’awiyah came out. The Prophet (s) said: ‘He is the one’.

Now the same narration is quoted by Al-Tabarani (Died 360 AH) and Abu Nu'aim Asfahani (Died 430 AH) but they changed the text and hide the name of Muwaiyah.

Al-Tabarani mentions the text like this :

Prophet (ﷺ) said :

A man will come out of this mountain pass, who will be from the people of hell. I had left behind my father there for abulution, and I feared, as if holding back my urine, that he would be the one to come, but a man came out. The Prophet (s) said: ‘He is the one’.

Abu Nu'aim Asfahani mentions the text like this :

A man will come out of this Yathrib who will die and he will be outside my nation (Islam)’. I thought i have miss him and i hold back my urine, but a Man came out.
