Ahmad bin Hanbal (Died 241 AH) narrated like this :
Riyaah bin al-Harith narrated that Mugheera bin Sho'uba was in the grand mosque of Kufa, and with him on right and left were the people of Kufa. A man named Sa’eed bin Zaid came, and Mugheera welcomed him, greeted him, and seated him near his feet on the bed. A man from the people of Kufa came and after greeting Mugheera he started insulting and cursing. Sa’eed asked, ‘Oh Mugheera ! Who is this man cursing?’ He replied, ‘He is cursing Ali.’ Sa’eed said, Oh Mugheera three times. ‘I see the companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) being insulted in your presence, yet you do not object or change it
Now same narration with same chain is quoted by Abu Dawud Sijastani (Died 275 AH) and he changed the text by hiding the name of Mugheera who was allowing abusing Ali.
